Big Red Cobcast: Ohio State Suckeyes

Well, here we are again. The doorstep of the B1G perennial powerhouse, THE Ohio State Suckeyes. I know I should be scared, we should all be but guess what I’m not. Here are a list of reasons, that I think, we obliterate The Sucknuts 69-3. Urban Meyer is old, he’s due for a mental lapse any day now. Prolly a heart attack also. Dicaprio Bootle (He’s a future Hall Of Famer). Ohio State has too much talent. Stay with me here. A lot of kids...

Nebrasketball: Glynn Watson Jr. Takes the Reins of This Years Squad

Can the junior take over and lead this team to greatness? I wish I could sit here and write about how Nebraska will have all this talent this year that will be able to compete in the Big Ten all season long. I wish they had a healthy schedule that started out light and progressively got tougher as the season goes on, but they don’t. I also wish this wasn’t such a do or die season for Tim Miles’ squad this year. There is a...

Corn Flakes: More On Patience and Opening That Checkbook

Why you need to remain patient, and why “opening the checkbook” might be the dumbest thing possible. I have made it a personal policy to not comment on articles that I’ve written. I’ve done this because I do not want to disrupt the flow of comments made by you, community members. I also feel that if I did not do a good job of explaining my point in the original article then I should experience the backlash (or approval) of my article in the comments...

Mike Riley Press Conference: Post-Wisconsin, Pre-Ohio State – Between A Rock And A Hard Place

Nebraska head coach Mike Riley held his weekly press conference. There really wasn’t any good news… Mike Riley had his weekly press conference just a bit ago, talked for a while about what happened with Wisconsin and did a little bit forward looking to this week’s opponent Ohio State. I watched part of this. It occurred to me that we should do an article comparing what it’s like be a modern-day Nebraska coach to what happens to the POTUS over a four-year or eight-year reign,...

Nebraska vs Wisconsin: The Morning After

It was not a fun night. Whether or not it’s a fun morning is up to all y’all. It was not a fun night in the end. The final quarter was a bludgeoning. A repeated bludgeoning. Here’s what some in the media had to say about it: Steven M. Sipple: Wisconsin batters NU with style painfully familiar to Husker fans | Column | journalstar.com “I think we’re absolutely, with what we’re doing strategically with our team, as we put it together. … We have to...

Report Card: Wisconsin Badgers 38, Huskers 17

Nope. It’s just not meant to be. When Aaron Williams picked off Alex Hornibrook’s pass for a touchdown, tying the game at 17-17 early in the second half, I really expected DJ Cool J to start blasting through the stadium. Throats were cleared. The Blackshirts were playing well. Here We Go Now! Here We Go Now! Except it wasn’t the Huskers ready to go… it was the Badgers, who basically decided to “eff this” and simply took control of the game. Jonathan Taylor, the unsung...

Wisconsin Throttles Nebraska 38-17

The Badgers decided that they’d destroy all hopes once the Huskers tied it at 17 in the third quarter…. Wisconsin’s running game was way too much for Nebraska’s 3-4 defense, as Badger running back Jonathan Taylor rolled up 249 yards and Wisconsin won 38-17. The Badgers totaled 353 rushing yards compared to only 110 by Nebraska. The game started out looking good for Nebraska, as they moved down the field easily on their first offensive possession until they came upon the worst possible down and...

Volleyball: #4 Huskers Handle #14 Michigan State Spartans

The only two remaining unbeaten teams in conference play met Wednesday night in Lincoln. The Huskers emerged as the only undefeated team in the conference. On Wednesday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, the #4 Nebraska Huskers Womens’ Volleyball team played host to the #14 Michigan State Spartans in a match-up of the only two teams with undefeated conference records. The Huskers left with the only unbeaten record, knocking off the Spartans 3-1(25-19, 25-15, 22-25, 25-19). Michigan State started the scoring...

Nebraska Football’s Numbers, Statistics, and Lies: Illinois Edition

It is amazing what playing Rutgers and Illinois in back-to-back weeks will do for your stats. N,S,&L is about basic stats and where the Huskers rank relative to other FBS teams and Big Ten teams. We apply the “eye test” to figure out if the numbers are lying or not. If you noticed any stats or made observations that aren’t covered here, add them in the comments! Color-Coded Pile of Numbers Some of the red is slowly being replaced with yellow and even some green....

Big Red Cobcast: Dreaming Devaney

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m an emotional fan. A homer on my best days, and a crying sack of Husker Power on my worst. I’m fairly inconsistent with my faith in coaching staffs and I, occasionally, have slipped into the gutter of feeling irrelevant to the rest of the country. This week, however, I’m feeling good. I think we mop the floor with Wiscy. Tanner Lee will keep his composure, Ziggy will battle for extra yards and the defense will be the...

Nebraska Linebacker Ben Stille Earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honors

Stille played extremely well Friday night against the Illini with three tackles for loss and a sack. Nebraska linebacker Ben Stille was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for his play against Illinois. Stille recorded his first career sack and three tackles for loss in the game. He finished with four tackles. Stille is a redshirt freshman from Ashland, Nebraska. The Blackshirt defense held Illinois to 199 total yards and six points, the lowest Nebraska’s defense has allowed in a road game since 2006....

Volleyball: Huskers have Huge Weekend in Lincoln

The Huskers welcomed two top-10 opponents over the weekend and finished the weekend with an unblemished B1G record. The weeekend was an exciting on at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln. The #8 Husker Women’s Volleyball Team welcomed the #3 Minnesota Golden Gophers and the #7 Wisconsin Badgers. The Huskers made quick work of the Gophers, but struggled early before decisively finishing off the Badgers. The Friday 6 PM match pitted the Huskers against the #3 Minnesota Golden Gophers on a night that featured...
