An efficient three set win for the Huskers Nebraska sent Ball State home in the first round of the NCAA volleyball tournament, 25-13, 25-18, 25-10.
Nebraska was low on errors as the team hit .425. Everyone looked good as the smaller Cardinal block didn’t block anything. I’m not being critical, that is the actual stat – 0 blocks. The Huskers had 17 blocks.
Madi Kubik had a particularly good night hitting .688 and digging 7 balls. What a way to start your post-season career! Lauren Stivrins was right there with Kubik hitting .667. Stivrins added 5 blocks to the night.
Nebraska looked good tonight. They looked really good. Tomorrow night Nebraska plays University of Missouri. They aren’t a ton bigger than Ball State but they are more physical in their play. The Tigers also looked good in their first round match against UNI beating them in 3 sets.
Nebraska and Missouri met in the same round in the same place last year. The result was a 3-0 for NU. Watch it tomorrow night at 7 pm on NET, BTN Plus and the Husker Sport Network.
NCAA Volleyball
Tons and tons of volleyball around the country tonight. There were 27 NCAA tournament matches tonight. I think I watched about 20! Six of the seven Big Ten teams won. Illinois lost to Utah in five sets.
Wisconsin beat Illinois State 3-0
Nebraska beat Ball State 3-0
Minnesota beat Fairfield 3-0
Penn State beat Princeton 3-0
Purdue beat Wright State 3-0
Michigan beat Northern Kentucky 3-0
Texas won in five sets of UC Santa Barbara. It was a nail bitter when Texas was down 2-1 and switched liberos. What a tough call to make as a coach. It seemed to work as Texas was confident and in control winning the fifth set.
The first seeded team lost in the second round. #15 Western Kentucky lost to Louisville in five sets.
