Smooth three set win for the Huskers Nebraska volleyball won in three sets tonight against Maryland, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18. They looked smooth and easy as they won. Sometimes they looked too easy, maybe even lethargic.
This match is a classic case of playing to the level of your opponent. Maryland plays a slower tempo of volleyball, they generally block and hit lower to the net. When Nebraska plays slower or makes hitting and blocking errors they are playing to the level of Maryland rather than the level they can reach.
There were nine service errors to the six service aces. Ok, a little picky but too many service errors. Most coaches will tell you they want the aces to error ratio to be 1:1.
Jazz Sweet looked strong and hit a whopping .526. Lauren Stivrins was efficient with 7 kills on only 12 attempts, that is a .583 hitting percentage!! She added 4 blocks to make that a very good match for her.
Lexi Sun and Madi Kubik played solid on the left side. They both hit in the .300s and dug double digit balls with 12 for Sun and 18 for Kubik. Megan Miller’s serve continued to look great. She causes trouble for the other team when she is on the end line. Miller added some skilled digs to make her a standout player in this match.
Tomorrow night same time, same place vs. Ohio State. Saturday’s match will be televised on NET and streamed on BTNPlus.com and the BTN+ app. It can be heard on Husker Sports Network radio affiliates, AM 590 in Omaha. A live audio stream will be provided at Huskers.com and also on the official Huskers app.
PSU beat Wisconsin in five sets tonight. It was a great match and it also means the Big Ten title is still undecided. Nebraska can’t win the title but PSU, Wisconsin and Minnesota all still have a chance.
