Nebraska picked up a key win on Saturday, defeating the Arizona State Sun Devils 2-1 to even the series at one game a piece. Nebraska used Nate Fisher, Robbie Palkert, and Colby Gomes to strike out 14 Sun Devils.
Fisher started the game off strong. He was able to strike out potential top ten MLB draft pick Hunter Bishop to strand a runner in the first inning.
Nebraska stranded Mojo Hagge on second in the first inning. Both Aaron Palensky and Luke Roskam were unable to get a key hit with Mojo on second.
After Nebraska turned a 1-6-3 double play in the third, the Huskers took a 1-0 lead. Hagge had a one out single and stole second. After Palensky was intentionally walked, Roskam got a single to drop in front of Bishop in center. Spencer Schwellenbach flew out to Bishop to end the threat for the Huskers.

The Sun Devils were able to trim the lead in the sixth inning. Spencer Torkelson hit a home run to the bathrooms in left field to cut the lead to 2-1. After the next two batters reached, Ted Silva turned to Robbie Palkert. Robbie got a strikeout, before walking the bases loaded. A fielder’s choice retired the Sun Devils.
Palkert got the Sun Devils in order in the seventh. In the home half, with a runner on first Hagge hit a line drive double play to prevent an insurance run from scoring.
Palkert again stranded the tying run at third in the eighth inning. After allowing a single to start the inning, Palkert got Bishop for the first out. A steal and a wild pitch moved the tying run to third before Palkert threw a fastball on the inside corner for strike three.
Gomes came on for the save for the Huskers. He gave up a hit to the leadoff man. A fielder’s choice got the first out. Hagge made his second great play of the game, robbing Drew Swift of a game tying hit at the fence in left.
